We chat to Soto Voce about their provocative new video, and a rider that sounds like a whole lotta fun… Check out our interview below.

Oh hi there. We’re a pop culture website. And you are…
Hello, I am Miss Mia Camilla Soto, lead singer and high priestess black witch queen of the dynamic duo Soto Voce – and I’m here with my partner in crime, the infamous villain himself, Señor De Vivo a.k.a the man behind the sound.

We hear you make music. Tell us about your latest release?
The latest release from our band is a song and video entitled Pop. The song has a lot of aggressive sexual lyrics, and in the video I deep throat a long barrel shotgun! Definitely fun for the whole entire family.

Who are your inspirations?
One of my first inspirations were The Misfits from the cartoon show Jem and the Holograms. I used to cry to my mom when Jem and the Holograms would win. The Misfits songs were better!
Miguel: Too many to name, but in terms of styles and eras I would say everything from psychedelic rock and early electronica from the late 60s and early 70s, to New Wave 80s to 90s industrial and hip hop, to classic R&B and soul, to folk music from all corners of the world. Of course latin music has played a big influence for me as well.

Tell us what the first album you REALLY bought was…
The first the first album or record I ever purchased was the Ariel The Little Mermaid record, which came with a songbook and a flute to learn how to play the songs. I used to kill that shit!
Miguel: First album I ever bought was either Nirvana, Nevermind or Soda Stereo, Cancion Animal.

Are you heading on tour? Where can we see you?
Yes we’re opening up for Tupac and Michael Jackson on the Makaveli Thriller tour. Its going to be unbelievable, so definitely look out for that!
Miguel: Our live show continues to evolve, and we do plan to take it on the road very soon…

My fondest memory as a musician is….
Getting laid…
Miguel: The moments when inspiration sparks and songs are born.

On our rider, you’ll find…
An ounce of weed, lube and a Ouija board.

If I was to play with one musician/band before I die, it would be…
Prince and the Revolution.
Miguel: The Cure.

What’s the buzz, tell us what’s happening next?
We have a big blood sacrifice ritual somewhere in mid-August, early September. I believe – just to affirm the success of our new coming EP. Don’t quote me on that one, I have to check with my manager and label…

If one lyric could define me, it would be…
“Some people tell me I got great legs / can’t figure out why you make me beg / does not compute.” Prince, Something In The Water

My iconic/horrific teen outfit/phase was…
Every outfit before I emancipated myself away from men’s attire.

My friends always tell me…
I’m crazy.

I know all the words to…
Batman Returns.

Buying me a round? I’ll have…
Mojitos… wait is it before 12? Make that mimosas.

If I was a rapper, I’d be…
I’d be the flyest bitch in your villa, Mia Camillah. Heart of a lion. Mind of a killer. Scare ya like Michael in Thriller. From god 2 goddess I’ll end ya! Bow down, repent and she’ll mend ya. Supreme witch queen of every coven that’s running. Emperor to impress! Miss Mia must confess, if I was a rap bitch I’d be the muthafucking best! …So that being said I guess I’d be Foxy Brown and 2Pac’s transgender daughter!

My lucky charm is…
My mother.

The one word I can’t stop saying is…
Yes.

I wish I was…
At crustaceans.

I would never…
Say never.
