It’s a new year, but we’re still over here contemplating the mixed platter that was 2017… Thankfully Melbourne-based indie-pop artist Essie Holt has reminded us of the better part of the year that was, via her top ten tracks of 2017.
“I’ve been listening to a lot of amazing Australian music this year. I love how diverse our music scene is at the moment and seeing so emerging artists really start to shine. These are some of my favourite releases from 2017…”
Boo Seeka – Brooklyn
I caught this song on the radio a few weeks ago and was immediately captivated by the incredible production and vivid imagery that comes through on this song. I then went and listened to the new Boo Seeka album and it’s really truly something very special!
LANKS – Comfortable
I’m constantly in awe of Will’s work ethic and the seriously high standard of quality music he produces. This tune is my fave LANKS track to date and I love how he raises the bar with every release. Killer!
Approachable Members of Your Local Community – Millennium Queen
This song is SO refreshing and I love what these guys stand for as a band. This is their first single and it was stuck in my head after the first listen. Very excited to hear more from these guys in 2018!
E^ST – Life Goes On
What a song! Incredible falsetto from Mel in this track, amazing songwriting and an all round great tune.
Angie McMahon – Slow Mover
I’ve loved watching Angie explode since releasing this incredible debut track. She’s one of the most talented, hard-working and inspiring musicians I know.
Gang of Youths – The Heart is a Muscle
This record as a whole is one of my top releases in the last few years. I’ve been listening to it as least twice weekly since it came out and every time I pick up something new. This song is a fave off the record and I remember being completely stopped in my tracks the first time I heard it. Just love these guys!
Meg Mac – Grace Gold
THIS SONG! Love the huge vocal arrangement in this track and the energy from the keys. Stunning.
Basenji x TKay Maizda – Mistakes
This track only just came out and it’s already had a massive impact on me. That chorus is infectious and gets me moving!
Fractures – Lowcast
Mark is such an incredible musician and this is one of my favourites from his album. Seen this live a couple of times recently and it’s killer!
Wafia – Bodies
I’m just loving the Wafia x Ben Abraham collaboration with these new tracks. Such exquisite melodies and songwriting. And Wafia’s voice is just SO beautiful.
