We chat to artsy local duo Ginger and the Ghost about their new track Kindred Spirits, playing at Burning Man on wild art cars, and playing a gig in a gum tree (of course, why not).

Oh hi there. We’re a pop culture website. And you are…
Missy, one half of Ginger and the Ghost.

We hear you make music. Tell us about your latest release?
Kindred Spirits is the new track …. we’ve been busy making an album for a little too long!

Inspo is awesome. Who are your ultimate music icons/inspirations?
I would have to say nature is the ultimate inspiration because we often make samples from nature – and we also used a program that David Attenborough’s audio engineer created, so we use the forests animals, and even the winds from the Sahara!

The first album I bought with my own money was…
B-52’s and INXS (on tape).

Ok, that’s your cool answer. Now tell us what the first album you REALLY bought was…
That’s it – but I did get a gift of Milli Vanilli and Bros!

Are you heading on tour? Where can we see you?
We are on tour – we’ve been to Bulgaria to play at Meadows In The Mountains festival which is incredible. We played a lot of shows in Portugal and Spain, and onto Switzerland, THEN to America to play at Burning Man on some wild art cars that drive through the desert. We’ve been playing very interesting places like old abandoned schools on mountaintops within fortress walls of castles – so it’s been incredible couple of months.

My fondest memory as a musician is…
Playing up a giant old gum tree – a 700 year old tree in fact – in the Australian desert, was beyond!

On my rider, you’ll find…
It’ll be vegetarian, strictly no plastic bottles, chocolate, towels, a mirror, fruit, and local wine.

If I was to play with one musician/band before I die, it would be…
Bjork!

My iconic/horrific teen outfit/phase was…
Handmade matching 90’s crop tops and matching a A-line skirts… mostly pale pinks and whites.

My friends always tell me…
They love me …. or I’m crazy.

I know all the words to…
Bust A Move

Buying me a round? I’ll have…
Espresso martini

If I was a rapper, I’d be…
GURU (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) because he was (RIP) a positive endearing rapper with melodic flow and his jazz roots and classical knowledge was insane! He used it to develop a really distinct sound of the streets and a story of his life and people.

My lucky charm is…
A laboradorite stone and a small figurine of Yoda that I travel with.

The one word I can’t stop saying is…
Fufinio (Portuguese for fluffy cute small thing) – like a cute dog or cat or animal!

I wish I was…
A nebula.

I would never…
Harm anyone or glitter bomb them without consent!

What’s the buzz, tell us what’s happening next?
We have lots of new songs to release, new music, and a very special performance that’s being announced for Sydney so stay tuned!
