In Allied, Brad Pitt plays Max Vatan, a Canadian spy sent to partner Marion Cotillard’s Marianne Beauséjour, in a mission to assassinate the German Ambassador to Morocco in 1942. Set in Casablanca, and during a period reminiscent of the film of the same name, Cotillard and Pitt really are today’s Bogart and Bergman, having the gravity and experience to be passionate without overplaying the drama.
